My experience with Bin 415 in Napa Valley

The depth of knowledge and love my guide had for San Francisco and the wine regions was incredible. This passion and joy came through in my tour, and it elevated my experience and appreciation of the area. I would have missed out on a LOT if I didn’t tour with Bin 415.

    My Tour

My tour guide was Michael, the founder of Bin 415. Michael personally corresponded with me via email in the days leading up to my tour to make sure my itinerary, timing, and logistics were perfect. And he didn’t just do this because I’m a travel blogger! Michael believes in the personal touch of making sure his clients have the most incredible experience possible.

Michael took all of my requests, and then he added his suggestions – most of which were fantastic local places I wouldn’t have otherwise known about – to create a fantastic trip for me.

If I’d done everything in San Francisco on my own, instead of using Bin 415, it would have taken me several days, hours of planning and looking-things-up, and lots of ride-shares or public transpiration.

But instead, I leisurely enjoyed all that the city had to offer while Bile 415 took care of everything for me.

    Privacy

I would recommend Bin 415 during any travel circumstances, but I recommend this tour company even more after COVID-19.

You’ll be in one car with one driver (who’s also your guide) all day. Bin 415 adheres to strict safety and sanitary policies. And you have complete flexibility to change plans before and during your tour based on your comfort level.

Because of how frequently wineries, attractions, and sites are changing their opening hours and visiting rules, having a company like Bin 415 to research and plan for you is essential to enjoy your trip to the Bay Area.

    • What should I expect on a tour with Bin 415?

Michael and Kelly have both guided me, and their depth of knowledge and passion for wine and the region is incredible. Their expertise and joy elevated my experience and appreciation of each winery I visited and every wine I tried.

Kelly and Michael correspond with me in the days leading up to my tour to ensure my itinerary, timing, and logistics are perfect. And they don’t just do this because I’m a travel blogger! They believe in the personal touch of making sure all their clients have the most incredible experience possible.

I give Michael or Kelly my wine requests and preferences. Then they curate a customized tour for me.

I’ve used Bin 415 as a solo traveler and with a group, so they’ll work with you whether you’re planning a girls’, solo, or couples’ trip.

If I’d explored Napa Valley on my own, instead of using Bin 415, it would have taken me several days, hours of planning and looking-things-up, and lots of ride-shares or public transportation.

But instead, I leisurely enjoyed everything the region has to offer while Bile 415 took care of everything for me.

    • Is Bin 415 a luxury experience?

Yes! Not only will Michael and Kelly give you the VIP experience with a private luxury car, customized itinerary, and one-on-one attention, but the wineries you visit will also give you the “red carpet” treatment.

Michael and Kelly are well-known and well-connected in Napa Valley, so you’ll have access to highly allocated and small-production wines.

Some wineries I visited let me sample wines usually reserved for wine club members. Other wineries gave me behind-the-scenes tours of their properties. One winery even set up a special tasting room just for me in their wine cave!

    • Is Bin 415 a private tour company?

You’ll be in one car with one driver (who’s also your guide) all day. Bin 415 adheres to strict safety and sanitary policies. And you have complete flexibility to change plans before and during your tour based on your comfort level.

Because of how frequently wineries, attractions, and restaurants book up, having a company like Bin 415 to research and plan for you is essential to enjoy your trip to Napa Valley.

    • When should I visit San Francisco?

September – November has some of the warmest and sunniest weather all year. And the crowds and prices will be much lower after the peak summer months end. Fall is your best chance for beach days in San Francisco, but always bring some layers because the bayside breezes can be chilly.

December – February sees low accommodation rates, and you won’t be competing with many other tourists for the best photo spots at top attractions. But make sure you bring plenty of warm clothes and rain gear if you’re visiting during these months.

March – May is the city’s shoulder season, so tourist numbers and prices will be on the rise, but not at their peak. I do recommend avoiding popular Spring Break weeks from late-March to Early-April. Temperatures will be in the mid-’60s (around 18ºC) during the day and a bit cooler at night, so still bring layers.

June – August. Because these are summer break months in the U.S., this is the peak travel season for San Francisco. Prices and tourist numbers will be at their peak, and you’ll want to book accommodation and tours in advance. And to many people’s surprise, San Francisco is quite chilly, damp, and foggy during the summer. So always have a layer with you, and bring a raincoat.

    • What's the best way to get around San Francisco?

Bin 415 provides bespoke private tours of Napa Valley, Sonoma, and San Francisco. Each tour is customized, unique, luxurious, and hosted by a certified sommelier – either Michael or Kelly.

    • What are the best restaurants in San Francisco?

New American/New Californian: State Bird Provisions, Rich Table, Sons & Daughters, Tartine Manufactory.

Brunch: Rose’s Cafe, Rusty’s Southern, Breadbelly, Lokma.

East Asian: Mister Jiu’s, LihoLiho Yacht Club, Empress by Boon, Nari.

Rooftop Dining: Charmaine’s Rooftop Bar & Lounge (pictured above), The View Lounge, Top of the Mark.

Italian: Fiorella, Sotto Mare, Cotogna, Acquerello.

      Omakase Sushi/Sashimi: Ju-ni, Kusakabe, Omakase, Akiko’s.

Seafood: Angler, Waterbar, La Mar, Tadich Grill, Swan Oyster Depot.

My Favorites: Farolito (Burritos), Hog Island Oyster Co., Aziza (Mediterranean), Super Duper Burgers, Wildseed (Vegan).

    • What are the best day trips from San Francisco?

Napa and Sonoma. I highly recommend spending a few days in both of these wine regions, but they are also leisurely day trips from San Francisco. You can drive to one of the hotels or towns and catch the wine shuttles that serve Napa and Sonoma. Or you can visit one or both of the regions as a guided tour from San Francisco. Either way, make sure you’re using good transportation judgment after each tasting.

Point Reyes National Seashore. Point Reyes is a beautiful cape just 30 miles northwest of San Francisco. Here, you can take those iconic Northern California Coast Instagram pics! I recommend visiting Point Reyes Lighthouse, Drakes Beach, and hiking to a view of Chimney Rock.

Monterey. The Monterey/Carmel/Big Sur area is worthy of its own trip. But if you can only visit this area as a day trip, then I recommend you do the 17-Mile Drive in Monterey and hike the McWay Waterfall Trail in Big Sur.
